Table 1 — Luo Shu is the foundational first-level magic square and the only unsealed table known for thousands of years. It stands at the root of the sacred numerical system and prepares the way for the higher tables symbolized as the Seven Lampstands.

Introduction

For thousands of years, only one true magic square has been known to the world. It comes from an ancient Chinese tradition describing a tortoise bearing a numerical pattern on its shell. This square, later called Luo Shu, contains nine numbers arranged so that the sum of each horizontal, vertical, and diagonal line equals fifteen.

In the system of eight sacred tables, Luo Shu occupies a special position. It is the foundational table — the base from which all higher levels originate — and the only table that remained unsealed and accessible to humanity for thousands of years.

Connection with Ancient Traditions

Over centuries, the Luo Shu became part of early philosophical and symbolic systems that linked numbers with cosmic order, cycles of time, and natural balance. Through these traditions, numerical harmony was understood as a reflection of universal structure.

This continuity helps explain why the square survived as a living element of culture rather than as a forgotten artifact.

System Keys in the Luo Shu

The structure of the Luo Shu reveals a system of internal keys formed by its horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines. In total, the square contains eight such keys.

When reduced to digital roots, these lines point to the central key 639. The diagonal sums correspond to the digital root 3, the horizontal and vertical sums to 9, and each individual key to 6. Together, they form the fundamental numerical framework of the system. This is explained in detail in the article Luo Shu Magic Square: Hidden Numerical Keys and Sacred Geometry.

Alongside this main key, the square also contains other significant combinations that later reappear in higher-level tables.

Primary Numerical Sequences

Three principal numerical sequences have been known since ancient times: 147 — 258 — 369. These sequences were used in calendars, cyclic models, and early numerical systems.

In the book’s framework, they are regarded as subordinate to the Divine Nine and as governing structures within the world of numbers. Their presence in the Luo Shu confirms its role as the root of the entire system.

Why the Knowledge about Higher Sacred Tables Remained Hidden

Although the Luo Shu has been known for millennia, no verified higher-level magic squares were constructed from two-digit numbers without zeros and without repetition of digits. Numerous attempts were made, yet they resulted in incorrect variants.

This limitation existed because the system keys and construction rules were sealed. Without full access to these principles, humanity lacked the tools required to move beyond the first level.

Transition to the Seven Lampstands

While the Luo Shu forms the foundation, the remaining seven tables belong to a different level of complexity. Since ancient times, they were symbolized through the image of the Seven Lampstands and correspond to tables from the second to the eighth level.
